The Righteous and the Flood
Noach — נֹחַ
“Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God.”
(Genesis 6:9)
The story of Noah is the story of mercy in the midst of judgment.
When the world was full of violence, God saw one man who still listened.
While others ignored the warning, Noah built. While others mocked, he obeyed.
The flood was not only destruction, it was cleansing.
God washed the world and began again through a man who found favor in His sight.
Through obedience, Noah preserved life. Through covenant, God promised never again to destroy the earth by water.
The rainbow became the sign of rest, the reminder that grace still reigns over wrath.
But Noah’s story points to something greater.
He is a shadow of the Messiah, the true Comforter, the greater Noah.
As Noah saved his family through an ark of wood, so Jesus saves all who believe through the cross.
Both men offered salvation before the storm came.
Both called people to repentance while the door was still open.
When Jesus spoke of His return, He said it would be “as it was in the days of Noah.”
People will eat, drink, marry, and live as if the flood will never come.
But the door of mercy will not stay open forever.
Now is the time to enter. Now is the time to walk with God.
This Week’s Reading

Prophets: Isaiah 54–55:5
Gospel: Luke 17:20–27
How to Use This Journal
The steps that follow can be walked through personally or with your Huddle.
Take them to heart in prayer, or share them in community.
Whether alone or together, let the Word move from reflection to practice, from practice to response, and from response to a life lived sent.
WORD
Read slowly through Genesis 6–9. Let the story speak before you interpret it.
Listen for what the Spirit is saying to you personally.
What does it mean to “walk with God” in your world today?
What stands out about God’s justice and His mercy?
Where do you sense the warning, and where do you see His invitation?
Read Isaiah 54 and hear His covenant promise:
“My steadfast love shall not depart from you, and My covenant of peace shall not be removed.”
Read Luke 17 and hear Jesus say:
“As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man.”
WONDER
Sit with the story. Ask God to show you your place in it.
What “ark” is God asking you to build in faith?
How do you prepare when the world around you ignores His voice?
What would obedience look like if you truly believed the flood was coming?
The ark was made of wood and covered in pitch.
It was not elegant, but it was enough.
Faith built it. Grace sealed it. And God Himself closed the door.
WALK
Move from reflection to obedience.
Build — Take a step of faith in what God has already spoken. Don’t wait for the storm.
Warn — Speak truth with compassion. Someone needs to hear the call to enter while the door is open.
Rest — Trust His covenant. The rainbow still testifies that mercy triumphs over judgment.
Walk — Stay close to Him. Righteousness is not perfection, it is faith expressed through obedience.
Living Sent This Week
Noach reminds us that grace is not passive: it builds, obeys, and perseveres.
The floodwaters rise, but those who walk with God find refuge in His promise.
The same God who called Noah to build, calls you to stand apart from your generation.
To live by faith, to prepare, and to point others toward the way of salvation.
Walk with God.
Build what He tells you to build.
Trust His covenant.
And live sent in a world that still needs to hear the sound of rain.
