Go Out - The Walk of Faith
Lech Lecha — לֶךְ־לְךָ
“Now the LORD said to Abram, ‘Go forth from your country, from your relatives and from your father’s house, to the land that I will show you.’”
(Genesis 12:1)
God called Abram to leave everything familiar, his land, his family, his security, and follow Him into the unknown.
The journey of faith always begins with a call to go out.
Abram obeyed. He stepped away from comfort and toward covenant. He did not know where he was going, but he trusted the One who called. Through his obedience, God promised to make him a blessing to all nations.
In Canaan, Abram built altars and called on the name of the LORD.
In Egypt, he learned humility and perseverance.
He rescued Lot, honored Melchizedek, and refused reward from the king of Sodom.
He waited for the promise and received the covenant sealed with a new name—Abraham, the father of many nations.
Abraham’s story teaches that faith is not a moment but a walk.
It begins with surrender and continues with trust.
It is tested by famine, refined by waiting, and rewarded by promise.
God called Abraham to go out, and He still calls us to do the same.
To leave what is comfortable.
To follow where He leads.
To trust Him with the unknown.
This Week’s Reading
Torah: Genesis 12–17.
The call of Abram. The covenant promise. The birth of Ishmael and the sign of circumcision.
Prophets: Isaiah 40:27–41:16.
God strengthens His people, reminding them that He alone is the everlasting Creator who calls them by name and upholds them with His righteous hand.
Gospel: John 8:51–58.
Jesus declares, “Before Abraham was, I Am.” The promise given to Abraham finds its fulfillment in the eternal Son who calls all people to life and faith.
How to Use This Journal
The steps that follow can be walked through personally or with your Huddle.
Take them to heart in prayer, or share them in community.
Whether alone or together, let the Word move from reflection to practice,
from practice to response,
and from response to a life lived sent.
WORD
Read Genesis 12–17 slowly.
Watch how faith moves from promise to obedience to covenant.
What does it mean for you to “go out” from what is known?
What promise is God calling you to trust before you see it fulfilled?
How do humility, perseverance, and faith all shape Abraham’s journey?
Read Isaiah 41:10 and hear God’s assurance:
“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.”
Read John 8:56 where Jesus said,
“Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.”
WONDER
Take time to be still before the Lord. Ask Him to show you where He is calling you to go.
Where is God asking you to step out in faith?
What do you need to leave behind to follow His leading?
How does Abraham’s courage shape your own response to God’s voice?
Abraham built altars wherever he went.
Each altar was a reminder that God’s presence travels with His people.
Faith does not stay still; it walks, waits, and worships along the way.
WALK
Move from reflection to obedience.
Go — Take a step toward what God has already spoken. Don’t wait for perfect clarity.
Trust — Believe that God will provide and protect as you obey.
Build — Create altars of remembrance, places or rhythms that remind you of His faithfulness.
Bless — Live as one sent to bring hope and peace wherever you go.
Living Sent This Week
Lech Lecha calls us to live in motion, faith that listens, trusts, and obeys.
God still calls His people to go out from the familiar and step into His promise.
This week, listen for His voice.
Leave behind whatever holds you back.
Build altars of gratitude along the way.
And walk as a son or daughter of Abraham, trusting the God who calls, provides, and fulfills every promise.
Go out.
Trust Him.
And live sent.
